Economics

Economics is the science that examines how human needs, which are considered unlimited, can be satisfied with limited resources. It deals with all issues arising from the mismatch between the supply and demand of goods and services, as well as the provision of the limited resources needed to meet these demands. Economics is a social science that has a significant impact on the development of societies.

Political Science and Public Administration

There are states around the world with different forms and processes. All of these states possess dimensions that can be understood and explained from organizational, political, sociological, cultural, and various other perspectives. In this context, our undergraduate program offers courses in areas such as political science, history of political thought,

International Relations

The Department of International Relations is a unit aimed at training experts for public institutions and organizations, intergovernmental and international organizations, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations in the field of international relations. Established on December 26, 2008, the department began admitting students in the 2011–2012 academic year. The department offers both full-time and evening programs at the undergraduate level.

Social Work

The Department of Social Work was established on February 2, 2011, and has been offering undergraduate social work education since the 2013–2014 academic year. Additionally, the department has been providing graduate-level social work education since the 2018–2019 academic year.

Management Information Systems

The undergraduate program of the Management Information Systems Department has not yet admitted students; student admissions will take place in future terms. The Management Information Systems Master’s program activities are currently ongoing.

Economics
 
The academic staff of our department includes 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 8 Assistant Professors and 1 Research Assistant. Our department has 4 departments: Economic Policy, Economic History, Economic Theory and Economic Development and International Economics.
 Our graduates have the opportunity to find jobs in public institutions such as the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Capital Markets Board, Turkish Statistical Institute, Public Procurement Authority, Energy Market Regulatory Authority as well as private financial institutions and firms.
Students of the Department of Economics can have the opportunity to study in other departments of Karabük University with double major and minor programs. In addition, there are also opportunities to study in higher education institutions abroad with the Erasmus program.

As of the spring semester of 2024/2025, our department has a total of 475 students, including 251 foreign students from 33 different countries and 224 Turkish students. Social Work

Historical Background


Karabük University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Social Work Department was established on February 2, 2011, and has been providing social work education at the undergraduate level since 2013 and the at graduate level since 2018. Since the 2022-2023 academic year, our department has been providing social work education at the doctoral level. With this aspect, our department has the distinction of being the only department that provides doctoral education in the Black Sea Region. In addition our department, which has the highest number of international students among other social work departments in Turkey, has student and academic staff mobility agreements with three different universities from Europe under the ERASMUS Programme. In addition to all these, the 24th social work symposium, which is organized every year in cooperation with the Turkish Association of Social Workers and a social work department, was held in our department with international participation.

The academic staff of our department consists of two professors, three associate professors, an assistant professor, and three research assistants as of the 2022-2023 academic year. Apart from the faculty members of our department, academicians from different departments of our university and social workers working in the field contribute to the education processes of our students.

According to IFSW (International Federation of Social Workers) and  The International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW):

“Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing”.


International Relations

Karabuk University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations is a dynamic academic unit that trains experts in the field of international relations. Founded on December 26, 2008, the department aims to train qualified graduates with wide career opportunities in various parts of Turkey and the world by starting to accept students in the 2011-2012 academic year. In our department, a comprehensive curriculum covering the basic and specialized areas of the discipline of international relations  is offered. In addition,  with our 100% English undergraduate program,  our students are provided with a globally competitive education.
Departments
The Department of International Relations addresses a wide range of disciplines with four different departments:

  1. Department of Political History: Provides the ability to analyze international events by presenting the historical perspective of global political developments.
  2. Department of International Law: Introduces students to the principles and institutions of international law and provides them with the competence to analyze within the legal framework.
  3. Department of International Relations: By providing the theoretical foundations and analysis tools of international relations, it enables students to have a deep understanding of current events and policies.
  4. Department of International Political Economy: Focusing on global economic policies, it provides a comprehensive knowledge infrastructure to understand the impact of economic factors on international relations.
 
The education offered at the undergraduate level has a structure in which basic courses are intensive in the first two years, and vocational courses gain weight in the last two years. The curriculum is designed in such a way that students will have a comprehensive understanding of the structure, history, actors and legal framework of the international system and Turkey's role in foreign relations. Students who successfully complete their undergraduate programs are entitled to receive the "Karabuk University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations Diploma".
 
With the contributions of the faculty members, academic and administrative staff of the Department of International Relations and the technical and physical facilities of the Department,  the Master's  and Doctorate programs in International Relations, as well as the interdisciplinary International Political Economy and Area Studies Master's Programs A total of 4 different graduate education activities are carried out. Political Science and Public Administration
There are states with different forms and processes in different parts of the world. All these states; It has dimensions to understand and explain in organizational, political, sociological, cultural and many other aspects. In this context, in our undergraduate department; Courses are given in the fields of political science, history of political ideas, sociology, management science, organizational discipline, city and urbanization, general law, administrative law, environmental problems, public policy, political sociology, public finance and local governments.
 
Our department provides education and training services with 3 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 6 Doctoral Lecturers and 6 Research Assistants. In our department; There are 4 departments: Administration Sciences, Legal Sciences, Urbanization and Environmental Problems and Political and Social Sciences. Students were admitted in the 2012-2013 academic year. Those who complete the public administration department can work in administrative positions in the public sector; They can work at various levels of the management mechanism in the private sector.
 
Graduate education has been offered in our department since 2010. The master's program aims to specialize in public administration. There are a total of 84 students enrolled in our master's program, which appeals to a wide range of people such as public employees, research assistants and private sector employees.

Management Information Systems
               

The Department of Management Information Systems was established to meet the growing need for professionals who can integrate information technologies with business processes and drive digital transformation in organizations. The program focuses on providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, and manage information systems that support strategic decision-making and enhance organizational performance.


Currently, the department includes one Professor and one Research Assistant who are dedicated to developing the academic and administrative infrastructure of the program. Although the undergraduate program does not yet admit students, preparations are ongoing to commence educational activities in the upcoming academic terms.

Once the program begins, it aims to offer a curriculum that combines management, information technology, data analysis, and decision support systems. The goal is to train professionals who can analyze complex business problems, design innovative technological solutions, and contribute to organizations' digital transformation processes at both national and international levels.
